SUMMARY:Who's Challenging Who?
DESCRIPTION:“Who’s Challenging Who?” is a 3 hour course which will explore the importance & role of relationships in supporting children and young people whose behaviour we often describe in schools as\nchallenging….\nDelegates attending will leave with: \n• A range of proven practical strategies & techniques to support positive outcomes\n• An awareness of the role we play as key adults in school within a developing crisis and how our responses can influence a child or young person’s behaviour\n• An understanding of basic neuroscience & how patterned ways of being in relationships can develop. \nWith societal changes and pressure on education the challenges are great and our capacity to adapt the way we work to support all our children\, young people\, staff and parents is key. This course looks to establish an understanding that different solutions are required for different individuals and it is helpful when policies and procedures are personalised in order to effectively support inclusion and achievement for all. \nWithin this course we will: \n• Explore how we support children and young people and de-escalate effectively using proven strategies\n• Examine how adults can transform the behaviour of the young people they work with\, through the relationships they build and the culture they promote\n• Consider how trauma can impact on a developing brain. \nDelivery \nThis course can be delivered at your setting as a morning or afternoon inset\, for a group of staff or whole school. There will be open sessions for a minimum of 3 members of staff\, including at least 1 member of senior leadership\, held across the county. \nCost\nThe cost for a school based 3 hours session will be £500. The cost for individual attendance at one of the open sessions will be £50. \nTrainers \nNina Britneff – Company Director and SEMH Consultant with Time and Kindness Ltd\, Nina is an experienced practitioner with over 20 years experience in training\, supervision and consultancy to support social\, emotional and mental health provision. SUMMARY:Meeting the new Ofsted framework in secondary science - Postponed\, new date to follow
DESCRIPTION:The Ofsted framework introduced in September 2019 requires science leaders to have a clear curriculum vision for the subject\, and be able to implement it effectively. Using Ofsted’s 3Is (Intent\, Implementation and Impact) as a foundation\, this course will guide participants through both the new framework and their current science curriculum\, to ensure that the department\, and its teachers and students\, are better prepared. The course will help identify strengths and weaknesses in your current curriculum provision – from teaching and learning in lessons\, to broader thinking beyond exam specifications that links school science to the outside world. \nLed by Ed Walsh\, Science author\, editor\, curriculum developer and CPD provider.  A Regional Development Lead for the STEM Learning network of Science Learning Partnerships\, Ed is a regular provider of CPD for organisations including the National STEM Centre\, AQA and the ASE. \nCost – Maintained schools £85\, Independent schools £150. \nBook now at http://www.stem.org.uk/rp352 \nDownload flyer

SUMMARY:Cross-curricular opportunities in primary science
DESCRIPTION:Explore practical ways of stimulating creativity\, reinforcing understanding and forming real-world connections between subjects. \nSession 1 – Linking science and ICT\nJulia Briggs (eLIM School Development Advisor) will explore how technology can help learners to observe\, look for patterns and to identify\, group and classify animals and plants. Technology can also be used to support comparative and fair testing and increase opportunities for research. Bring a tablet or laptop to consider a variety of resources that will develop curiosity and excitement\, and help learners to increase the power of the explanations they give for natural phenomena. \nSession 2 – Linking science with history\nDr Alison Trew (Area Mentor\, Primary Science Teaching Trust) is co-author of ‘Standing On the Shoulders of Giants’\, a resource that introduces a framework for learning about famous historical scientists\, which emphasizes their work rather than facts about their lives. She will show how practical enquiries that model those carried out by the scientist help to develop an understanding of how their work was carried out and how scientific ideas have changed over time. She will also share another PSTT resource\, ‘Engineering our World’\, which introduces eight famous scientists and engineers through group-based engineering challenges. \nSession 3 – Linking science with geography\nEd Walsh\, (author\, curriculum developer\, CPD provider\, STEM Learning) will demonstrate the real potential for linking these subjects and improving the quality of T&L in doing so. Not only is there scope to use shared concepts such as the water cycle and geological processes but there are organisations producing high quality ready-to-use curriculum materials. Try out activities from Practical Action and the National Farmers Union and consider how they can be used to engage pupils and provide teachers with effective resources. Furthermore\, developing this link also provides a valuable way into aspects of the curriculum such as citizenship\, global awareness and sustainability. \n£85 per person\, with a 20% discount for bookings made by 14 February \nBook online at http://www.stem.org.uk/rp198 \nDownload flyer
